In 2019 the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) started to develop a new local plan. Part of this was a ‘call for sites’, an open invitation to anyone to submit sites which they would like to see used for housing or ‘economic’ development, and also sites for ‘green spaces’. The results were published on 16 September. As sufficient land for 220,000 homes has been put forward, and only sufficient for 5,000-30,000 is needed, quite a lot will be rejected. In September GCP were anticipating that they would consult with parish councils ‘later in the Autumn’. A summary of the sites which have been put forward for Balsham is on the village website [Call for sites ], There are lots of links should you wish to dig deeper, and a breakdown of issues which need to be thought about.
Constructive comments from villagers will be welcomed by the clerk (clerk@balsham.net), so that this document can be developed and the Parish Council can be ready to make informed comments.
